Made from thousands of tiny pieces of cut up paper, my work is simply the result of a compulsion to work with colors and recycle materials. I love reusing and transforming all kinds of paper to create a painting.

I use patterned papers of all kinds - old road maps, magazines, scrapbooking papers, wallpaper sample books, unwanted paintings and drawings, junk mail, sheet music, and altered papers. I often create and paint my own papers with stamps, stencils, and block printing to create texture and dimension. These papers are then cut and layered and glued until the image emerges.

My collages are directly inspired by the natural and human made scenery around me, the people living lives in front of me, the long solitary walks I have been taking for years, and the times spent with the people I love. They are the ordinary things that surround us all the time.

8x8 Paper on Canvas

My goal is always to give the viewer an experience of surprise. From a distance a piece might look like a painting, but as one steps closer the mess and choas of thousands of small paper cuts layered upon each other, the many different patterns and unexpected colors, and the lumps and wrinkles as a result of these layers is unavoidable. When viewed up close, there is an entirely different piece to see. While some work is more realistic, other pieces are simply an impression of what I am seeing.
